  • Heads the Department of Military Affairs.

Role of CDS

  • Permanent Chairman of Chiefs of Staff Committee.
  • Principal Military Adviser to Defence Minister on tri-service matters.
  • Promotes integration among Army, Navy and Air Force.
  • Does not command the three Service Chiefs.
