Why in news?

(HPCL) has signed a long-term LNG supply agreement with Gas to strengthen India’s natural gas security.

  • Supply volume: 0.5 million tonnes of LNG per year
  • Duration: 10 years
  • Start of supply: From 2028
  • Deal value: ~ $3 billion
  • Nature: Long-term contract (reduces exposure to volatile spot markets)
  • UAE: India’s second-largest LNG supplier
  • Linked to India’s 15% gas-mix target by 2030

  • Makes the UAE India’s 2nd largest LNG supplier (after Qatar)
