Indian Quantum Algorithm Achievement in Quantum Computing

Context: Indian Quantum Algorithm Achievement

Scientists from BITS Pilani, working with IBM Quantum, have developed a quantum algorithm that successfully simulated subatomic particle behaviour on a 120-qubit IBM quantum processor.

This is the first Indian achievement to be recognised as an active quantum advantage by the Quantum Advantage Tracker.

Quantum Advantage: Basics

What is Quantum Advantage?

Quantum advantage is achieved when a quantum computer solves a practical problem faster or better than the best classical computer.

Why is it important?

It demonstrates the real-world usefulness of quantum computing beyond theory.

It shows that quantum computers can solve problems that are extremely difficult for classical computers.

How does it work?

Classical computers use bits, which represent either 0 or 1.

Quantum computers use qubits, which can process multiple states simultaneously.

This gives quantum computers the ability to perform certain complex calculations more efficiently.

Applications

Drug discovery
Material science
Cryptography
Climate modelling
High-energy physics
Quantum chemistry

About the UPSC Civil Services Examination (UPSC CSE)

The UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) is one of the most competitive and esteemed examinations in India, conducted by the Union Public Service Commission to recruit officers for services such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and others. The exam comprises three stages — Prelims, Mains, and the Personality Test (Interview) — designed to test a candidate’s knowledge, aptitude, decision-making, and leadership skills.

How to Prepare Effectively for UPSC CSE

Cracking the UPSC CSE requires a deep understanding of the syllabus, consistent revision, structured answer writing, and smart test-taking strategies. The Prelims test analytical and conceptual clarity, the Mains focuses on critical thinking, articulation, and subject mastery, while the Interview assesses presence of mind, ethical judgment, and personality traits relevant to public service.

At UnderStand UPSC, we empower aspirants with a personalized and focused approach to each stage of the exam.
