UPSC Calendar 2027: All Exam Dates, Notifications & PDF

One missed application deadline can cost you an entire year, even if you’ve spent that year preparing for UPSC.

Imagine completing your syllabus, taking mock tests and feeling ready for the examination, only to discover that the application window closed yesterday.

It sounds unlikely until you realise how many dates an aspirant must keep track of.

The UPSC Calendar 2027 gives you those dates in advance.

But UPSC conducts far more than the Civil Services Examination.

If you’re preparing for NDA, CDS, CAPF, Engineering Services, Indian Forest Service or another UPSC examination, this guide brings the important dates together.

More importantly, we’ll discuss how to use the calendar to plan your preparation instead of simply saving the PDF and forgetting about it.

The Mains examination is scheduled for a duration of five days. This does not necessarily mean five consecutive calendar days. The detailed paper-wise timetable will be released separately.

Remember: UPSC explicitly states that examination dates, notification dates and durations may change if circumstances require.

So, use these dates for planning, but check the official website regularly.

The calendar also reserves several dates for recruitment tests or other examinations without naming a specific examination.

These reserved dates are:

9 January, 13 March, 5 June, 31 July, 7 August, 25 September, 16 October, 23 October and 4 December 2027.

These are reserved examination slots, not confirmed dates for any particular recruitment.

What Do the Different UPSC Examinations Cover?

Civil Services Examination (CSE): Recruitment to services including IAS, IPS and Indian Foreign Service.

Indian Forest Service (IFoS): Recruitment to the Indian Forest Service. Its preliminary screening takes place through the Civil Services Preliminary Examination.

Engineering Services Examination (ESE): Recruitment to specified technical and engineering services.

NDA & NA: Entry into the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy through the prescribed selection process.

CDS: Recruitment pathways to specified military training academies.

CAPF (Assistant Commandants): Recruitment of Assistant Commandants in participating Central Armed Police Forces.

Combined Medical Services (CMS): Recruitment to specified medical service posts.

IES/ISS: Indian Economic Service and Indian Statistical Service examinations.

Combined Geo-Scientist: Recruitment to designated geoscience-related positions.

Departmental examinations such as CBI (DSP) LDCE and CISF AC (EXE) LDCE have separate eligibility conditions and are not open to all graduates.

One Important Detail About IFoS 2027

The IFoS Prelims 2027 date is also 23 May 2027.

That’s because UPSC uses the Civil Services Preliminary Examination to screen candidates for the Indian Forest Service Mains examination.

However, the eligibility requirements for IFoS are different from those for CSE.

Do not assume that qualifying for one examination automatically establishes eligibility for the other.

UPSC CSE 2027 Notification: What Happens on 13 January?

For Civil Services aspirants, 13 January 2027 is the scheduled notification date.

This is when UPSC is expected to publish the detailed examination notice.

The notification will provide the authoritative information about:

  • Number of vacancies
  • Age limits and category-wise relaxations
  • Educational qualifications
  • Number of permitted attempts
  • Application requirements and fees
  • Examination rules
  • Reservation and certificate requirements
  • Eligibility restrictions applicable to previously selected candidates

Why Should You Read the Notification Yourself?

Suppose you’re appearing for the first time.

You might assume that the application process is identical to last year’s.

Or perhaps you’ve already been selected for a service and want to attempt CSE again.

In both situations, relying on outdated information can create problems.

The CSE 2026 rules included provisions affecting certain previously selected or appointed candidates. Whether and how those provisions apply in 2027 must be checked against the new notification.

Don’t make eligibility decisions based on an old notification or a forwarded message.

Also, check the current registration and application requirements on UPSC’s official application portal. Do not assume that an older One-Time Registration process remains unchanged.

For a detailed preparation timeline, see our UPSC Prelims 2027 exam date and strategy guide.

If you’re unsure whether you meet the age requirements, read our UPSC Age Limit 2027 guide before applying.

Save the document somewhere accessible.

You can also add the important dates to your phone’s calendar and set reminders before application deadlines.

For CSE 2027, consider reminders on 13 January, 25 January and 1 February 2027.

That gives you time to complete the application and resolve problems before the scheduled closing date.

How to Plan Your UPSC 2027 Preparation Around the Calendar

A calendar is useful only when it changes what you do today.

If you’re preparing for CSE 2027, you already know that Prelims is scheduled for 23 May.

The question is how to use the months before it.

November to December 2026: Build Your Foundation

By the end of December, aim to establish a strong understanding of major Prelims subjects.

Prioritise:

  • Polity and the Constitution
  • Modern Indian history
  • Geography
  • Economy
  • Environment
  • Basic science
  • CSAT fundamentals

You don’t need to finish every book available.

Focus on limited, reliable sources and regular revision.

UnderStand UPSC’s MAD-X Phase I begins on 2 November 2026, according to the programme schedule provided for this article.

Use this period to identify your weaknesses early rather than discovering them a month before Prelims.

January to February 2027: Complete the Application and Strengthen Revision

The CSE notification is scheduled for 13 January.

The application deadline is 2 February.

Your first responsibility during this period is to complete the application correctly and on time.

Keep your documents ready and follow the instructions in the official notification.

Alongside this, begin revising the subjects you’ve already studied.

Solve previous years’ questions and identify recurring mistakes.

If you’re consistently getting questions wrong in a particular subject, address that weakness now.

Don’t wait until the final month.

March to April 2027: Shift Towards Examination Practice

By March, your preparation should increasingly focus on revision, question-solving and test analysis.

MAD-X simulators are scheduled to begin on 7 April 2027, according to the programme timeline.

At this stage, full-length tests can help you evaluate your accuracy, time management and ability to handle unfamiliar questions.

But don’t make the mistake of taking one mock after another without analysing the results.

If you score 85 today and 90 next week, find out what changed.

Did your concepts improve? Did you make fewer careless mistakes? Or was the second paper simply easier?

That distinction matters.

Explore the UPSC Prelims Test Series 2027 for structured GS and CSAT practice.

Final 30 Days Before Prelims: Revise, Don’t Restart

With Prelims scheduled for 23 May, the final month begins around 23 April.

This is not the ideal time to start five new books.

Instead, concentrate on:

Revision: Revisit important concepts and notes.

PYQs: Understand the way UPSC frames questions.

Mock analysis: Correct recurring mistakes.

CSAT: Maintain regular practice, even if you’re comfortable with the subject.

Health and routine: Build a realistic study schedule that you can maintain until the examination.

And remember, the goal isn’t to study for the maximum possible number of hours.

It’s to retain what you’ve studied and apply it correctly in the examination.

UPSC Calendar 2026 vs 2027: What Has Changed?

If you’ve followed the previous examination cycle, you’ll notice that the major CSE examination dates are almost identical.

ExaminationUPSC 2026UPSC 2027
CSE Prelims24 May 202623 May 2027
CSE Mains begins21 August 202620 August 2027

Both Prelims dates fall on a Sunday.

The Mains examinations are scheduled to begin in August in both years.

For aspirants planning their preparation across multiple attempts, this provides a useful broad timeline.

However, similar dates do not mean identical examination patterns, difficulty levels or eligibility rules.

Those details must always be checked against the relevant year’s notification.

UPSC Prelims 2027 Countdown Planner

Knowing the examination date is one thing. Knowing what to finish before that date is another.

That’s why we recommend creating a simple countdown planner.

DeadlinePreparation Target
December 2026Strengthen foundational subjects
January 2027Check notification and application requirements
February 2027Complete application and revise core subjects
March 2027Increase PYQ and mock-test practice
April 2027Focus on full-length tests and revision
May 2027Consolidate preparation and maintain examination readiness

You can print it, place it near your study table and track your progress every month.

The purpose isn’t to create pressure.

It’s to ensure that you always know what your next priority should be.
