Institutional Position
NewSpace India Limited, commonly known as NSIL, is a wholly owned Government of India company under the administrative control of the Department of Space.
It was incorporated on 6 March 2019 under the Companies Act, 2013 and functions as the commercial arm of the Indian Space Research Organisation.
NSIL was established to convert India’s space capabilities into commercially viable products and services while enabling greater participation of Indian industries in the space sector.
Major Functions
NSIL undertakes commercial activities related to:
- launching domestic and foreign satellites;
- providing satellite communication services;
- building, owning and operating satellites;
- supplying Earth-observation and space-based services;
- transferring ISRO technologies to Indian industries;
- providing mission-support and ground-segment services;

Launch Vehicles and Satellite Services
NSIL markets launch services using Indian launch vehicles such as:
- Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle;
- Launch Vehicle Mark-3;
- Small Satellite Launch Vehicle.
It has also been given responsibility for transferring the production of mature launch vehicles to Indian industry. A consortium of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and Larsen & Toubro has been selected to manufacture a series of PSLV rockets.
NSIL provides satellite-based services for:
- television and communication;
- broadband connectivity;

- navigation support;

- government and commercial applications.
It can procure satellites from Indian industry, arrange their launch and operate them commercially throughout their service life.
