Srinagar has resumed functioning as the summer capital after six years with reopening of Civil Secretariat under the revived Darbar Move, shifting administration from Jammu.

Two Capitals of Jammu & Kashmir

1. Srinagar — Summer Capital

  • Functions: April–October
  • Located in Kashmir Valley
  • Houses Civil Secretariat during summer

2. Jammu — Winter Capital

  • Functions: November–March
  • Located in Jammu region (plains)
  • Secretariat shifts here in winter

Darbar Move

  • Biannual shifting of administration between Jammu & Srinagar
  • Introduced in 1872 (Maharaja Ranbir Singh)
  • Ensures administrative access to both regions
