Background
NIMHANS traces its origin to:
- All India Institute of Mental Health (AIIMH) established in 1954.
- It merged with the Mental Hospital, Bangalore in 1974 to form NIMHANS.
In 2012, NIMHANS was declared an Institute of National Importance through an Act of Parliament.
