India joined a UN joint statement criticising Israel’s plan to expand settlements in the West Bank, after initially skipping the joint appearance.

• Buffer zone under Israel–Egypt agreements
• Known for smuggling tunnels
• Israel seeks security control; Egypt & Palestinians oppose expansion
